Possible Cyanobacteria Bloom At The Boat Launch

Dear CPA Community,
Today we spotted a potential cyanobacteria/blue-green algae bloom at the public boat launch. (See photo below.) We are taking a few actions:
1) saving a water sample for testing
2) posting a notice at the boat launch
3) posting this to Maine DEP’s Bloomwatch app
4) informing our CPA community
This is likely an isolated bloom, and we don’t yet know if it is toxic. To ensure the safety of people and pets, please keep them out of the water at the launch area and be on the lookout elsewhere.

Please spread the word that there may be a bloom in effect, and let Elicia and/or Victor know if you see any cloudy water or algal activity anywhere else on the pond. You can Leave a Reply below which will be forwarded to them.

  • Hi All! I visited the site again later in the afternoon, and the bloom had disappeared! (Due to disappearance, I did not hang signs nor take a sample.) I will keep an eye on it and report back.
