Has Your 2026 Tax Bill Increased significantly?

Coleen M. wrote that the 2026 tax bill for her pond property went up by roughly $1000. She wonders if anyone else has seen the same effect on their tax bills or if they have any word from the Town of Hiram as to the cause for the hefty increase. Please leave a reply comment below if you have any feedback.

  • Yes ours also went up $1000 (almost to the penny), seems like significant increase! I’m not aware of any property reevaluation.

  • Close to 700 here. I haven’t seen anything that mentioned this was happening. Yikes!

  • Ours also went up $700. However, our land value doubled and that drove our total assessment up. Probably due to the 2 recent sales on the pond.

  • Here’s a report from Doug B.:
I called the Town Clerk, and she said they started a town-wide property revaluation last year, beginning with the waterfront properties. They are trying to get the valuations more in line with current market conditions. She said many lakefront prosperity owners have called with concerns of $1000+ tax increases. She said the Town plans to complete a full town wide assessment this year.

It seems the revaluation has been applied to the Land Value portion of the assessment. Two pond residents have reported increases to their assessed Land Value of about 75%.

  • My non-waterfront land across the street on Notch Road did not increase but the waterfront land value doubled. I expect increases routinely, but I was surprised that it doubled.

  • Yes, our property tax bill increased $1,000, too! The property value almost doubled, with a minimal increase on the building. I don’t recall seeing or receiving any correspondence from the town notifying property owners related to the reevaluation, nor was there an explanation in the bill.

  • Our assessed land value went up 70%, the building value went up by 7%, and the total value (not including the homestead exemption) increased by 26.4%. Our annual taxes went up 30% – partially due to these valuations and partially because the tax rate also went up by 3%.
