The Friends of the Mountain Division Trail (www.fotmdt.org) has published its latest newsletter with updates on the progress of converting the old rail line that runs close to our neighborhood. The goal is to connect the existing portions of the paved walking/biking trail in Fryeburg and Standish with a newly constructed section through Hiram and Brownfield. The project has been approved by the State of Maine and the first step, removal of the existing railroad rails and ties, may begin as early as the end of this year. Completion is targeted for mid-2027. This should open up some new recreational opportunities right around the corner at the north end of Notch Road.
