Look Out for Loonlets

According to Nancy S.’s observations, our nesting loon pair has been brooding their three eggs since about the first of June. Given that the average incubation period is 28 days, we may be in for some new pond residents any day now. Here’s hoping for a successful hatch!

During this very important period for both parents and new chicks, please be especially respectful of the need to keep a safe distance from the nesting platform and the family. Maine Audubon recommends at least 150 feet.

  • The loons have been hanging out with the loonlet at the farm end of the lake- only one. Have seen some fishing folk head toward them- they aren’t happy with that! Have some pics. Will send
