New Headway Speed Buoy

Dear CPA community:  You may have noticed we have a new addition to the cove near the public boat launch: a “Headway Speed Only” buoy provided by the Maine Game Warden Service. This buoy should serve to remind boaters to use headway speed* in the cove, and at all times within 200 feet of shore – which comprises almost the entire boat launch cove.  Its placement, as agreed to by state officials, was dictated by needing to be near the boat launch and swimming beach area and in waters about 20 feet deep. (It is not necessarily a 200-foot marker in the cove, but serves as a general reminder.)  More about the process and rationale for installing this buoy can be found in our Fall, 2023 and Spring, 2024 CPA minutes on the Pond Business page.

This map depicts the approximate 200-foot headway speed zone around the entire pond.
